About Krajinski Park Goričko

Located in the northeastern part of Slovenia, along the border with Hungary and Austria, Krajinski Park Goričko represents a richly diverse natural and cultural landscape encompassing parts of the Prekmurje region. Established in 2003, the park covers a mosaic of mixed forests, meadows, farmland, ponds, and riverine wetlands, all characteristic of the Pannonian Plain's gentle hills. These features create vital habitats for numerous species, including rare birds like the European roller, White Stork, and the black stork, as well as mammals such as the European otter and various bat species. The park’s cultural heritage is equally notable, with scattered rural villages showcasing traditional houses, wooden architecture, and historical manor estates. Outdoor enthusiasts will find diverse recreational opportunities, from well-maintained hiking and cycling trails that meander through the varied landscape to birdwatching towers offering glimpses of migratory species. The area’s network of small rivers and ponds also supports fishing and nature photography. Visitors are drawn to highlights such as the Števerjan Manor, popular forested recreation areas, and the special flora of the park’s floodplain ecosystems. Particularly appealing is the quiet, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere of the park, offering a calm nature experience within easy reach of urban centers like Murska Sobota. The park promotes sustainable tourism to preserve its ecological integrity while fostering local community involvement through educational programs and eco-friendly visitor infrastructure.
